BIOGRAPHY
Born in Italy, Maurizio Deiana discovered his passion for music at a young age, beginning his formal education at the State Conservatory of Music "G.P. da Palestrina" in Cagliari, where he graduated with highest honors in piano performance. Determined to expand his artistic horizons, he continued his studies at the École Normale de Musique “Alfred Cortot” in Paris under the guidance of Ludmila Berlinskaia, a distinguished Russian pianist and daughter of Valentin Berlinsky, a founding member of the legendary Borodin Quartet. His academic journey later brought him to the "Franz Liszt" University of Music in Weimar, where he pursued advanced master’s degrees in piano, chamber music, and song accompaniment, refining his craft under an array of esteemed mentors.
Between 2009 and 2011, Maurizio Deiana further enhanced his pianistic skills at the Piano Academy "Steinway Society" in Verona with Federico Gianello, an experience that enriched both his technical expertise and interpretative depth.
In 2011, his career took a pivotal turn when he was invited to perform at the Impuls Festival for New Music in Saxony-Anhalt. Over a series of six concerts, he delivered a compelling performance of Arnold Schönberg’s Pierrot Lunaire op. 21 and premiered Julian Lembke’s Rose rot - Nachtigall tot, affirming his versatility and interest in contemporary music.
Following his studies in Weimar, embarked on a new chapter as répétiteur with conducting duties at the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater in Halberstadt during the 2011/12 season. Immersed in the theater’s dynamic environment, he contributed to productions of Carmen, My Fair Lady, and Heinrich Marschner’s Der Vampyr. In 2014, he joined the International Gluck Festival in Nuremberg as répétiteur for Paride ed Elena, collaborating with conductor Andreas Spering and director Sebastian Hirn, an experience that deepened his appreciation for historical and stylistic fidelity in opera.
From 2014 to 2019, pursued orchestral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold under the tutelage of Professors Bloemeke and Florian Ludwig. Alongside his studies, he honed his skills as répétiteur at the Landestheater Detmold and Stadttheater Bielefeld, where he worked on a wide range of operatic productions, including Otello, Rigoletto, Le nozze di Figaro, La Traviata, Orpheus in der Unterwelt, Werther, La Bohème, Die Zauberflöte, and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. This extensive repertoire not only strengthened his technical proficiency but also fostered a profound understanding of the theatrical and emotional dimensions of operatic performance.
As a conductor, has collaborated with prestigious ensembles, including the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie (NWD), the Südwestfälische Philharmonie Hilchenbach, the orchestra of the Landestheater Detmold, the Detmolder Kammerorchester (DKO), Collegium Musicum Bielefeld, and the University Orchestra of Bielefeld. His engagements have been marked by a commitment to musical clarity, expressive depth, and collaborative excellence.
From 2017 to 2022, he served as répétiteur at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, a role that allowed him to mentor young musicians while deepening his own understanding of the pedagogical aspects of music. In the 2023/24 season, he participated in productions of Nixon in China by John Adams and Master Class by Terrence McNally at the Theater Koblenz.
In May 2024, he made his debut as musical director of the Koblenz Guitar Festival Chamber Orchestra, leading a performance at the 33rd Koblenz Guitar Festival and Academy.
Throughout his career, Maurizio Deiana has drawn inspiration from numerous influential figures, including Eugen Wangler, Symeon Ioannidis, Gunter Kahlert, Fabio Bidini, Riccardo Zadra, and Ivan Törzs. These collaborations and mentorships have shaped his artistic philosophy, which balances technical rigor with an unwavering commitment to musical expression.
